What are Exhaust Headers / Downpipes?
The pipes that carry hot exhaust gas away from each cylinder before it reaches the silencer.

Bolted directly to the cylinder head, the header pipes route burnt exhaust gas away from the engine and, on multi-cylinder bikes, often merge together before reaching the silencer.

How it works
Each exhaust valve opens to release hot, high-pressure gas into its header pipe. The shape, length and diameter of the pipes affect both performance and sound, which is why aftermarket systems change how a bike feels as much as how it sounds.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Ticking noise from a leaking joint or gasket
- ⚠Discolouration (blueing) from excessive heat
- ⚠Visible cracks or corrosion, especially near welds
- ⚠Noticeably louder or different exhaust note
