What are Fuel Tank Cover / Shrouds?
The plastic panels that shape and protect the area around the fuel tank and radiator shrouds.

In plain English
On many modern bikes the visible 'tank' is actually a plastic cover over a smaller metal or plastic fuel cell, along with shrouds that direct airflow around the radiator and protect the rider's knees.
“Like a phone case — the protective, styled outer layer over the functional part underneath.”
How it works
Moulded panels clip or bolt over the structural fuel cell and radiator area, both for styling and to protect those components from stone chips, heat and minor knocks. They're usually among the first parts to show cosmetic damage in a low-speed drop.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Scuffing, cracking or scratches from a tip-over
- ⚠Loose or rattling panel fixings
- ⚠Fading paint or clear coat
- ⚠Poor panel gap alignment after a refit
