What are Brake Discs?

The disc, or rotor, is the flat metal plate bolted to the wheel hub that the pads squeeze against. Most bikes use two up front for stopping power and one at the rear.

How it works
As the caliper clamps the pads onto the spinning disc, friction generates significant heat, which the disc's drilled or slotted pattern helps to shed quickly. Repeated heavy braking can warp a disc or wear it thinner than its minimum safe thickness.
Signs of trouble
