What isCornering ABS?
A rider aid that adjusts ABS brake-pressure control according to the motorcycle's calculated dynamic state, using an IMU alongside wheel-speed and braking data.

Cornering ABS is a rider aid, not a guarantee. It uses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) alongside wheel-speed and braking data to estimate what the motorcycle is doing, and adjusts ABS brake-pressure control accordingly. It works within physical and model-specific limits, and it cannot create grip or ensure that the motorcycle will not run wide, slide or fall.
How it works
An IMU measures linear acceleration and angular movement. From that data, together with wheel-speed sensors and brake-pressure information, the ABS control unit estimates the motorcycle's lean, pitch and other dynamic conditions. It then adjusts how quickly and how strongly brake pressure is modulated in response to the rider's inputs. The system's decisions depend on the calculated dynamic state, tyre and surface grip, and the manufacturer's calibration — not on lean angle alone.
Signs of trouble

What it helps with

What it cannot do
- •It cannot create tyre grip.
- •It cannot guarantee that the motorcycle will not run wide, slide or fall.
- •It cannot compensate for excessive corner-entry speed or poor line choice.
- •It cannot overcome contaminated, damaged or unsuitable surfaces.
- •It operates only within the manufacturer's calibration and physical limits.
What normal intervention may feel like
- •Pulsing or firmness at the brake lever under hard braking, similar to standard ABS.
- •Braking effort that feels more progressive when leant over than a standard ABS system.
- •A brief flash of the ABS indicator on the dash.
What the rider should do
- •Brake progressively and set the motorcycle up before the corner where possible.
- •Judge corner entry speed on available grip, not on trust in the system.
- •Never test the system by intentionally braking hard in a corner.
- •Have persistent warning lights or fault messages investigated by a qualified motorcycle technician.
How cornering ABS varies between motorcycles
- •IMU capability and sensor arrangement differ between manufacturers.
- •Some systems combine cornering ABS with lean-sensitive traction control and other aids.
- •Different ride modes may change intervention thresholds.
- •Some models allow the rider to reduce ABS intervention for track or off-road use.
What affects the repair?
