The most common final drive on motorcycles: a chain loops around a small front sprocket and a larger rear one, transferring the gearbox's output directly to the rear wheel.

How it works
As the front sprocket spins with the gearbox output shaft, its teeth pull the chain around, which in turn drives the rear sprocket and wheel. Correct tension and regular lubrication are essential — too tight and it strains the gearbox bearings, too loose and it can derail or snap.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Visibly loose, rusty or dry-looking chain
- ⚠Clicking or slapping noise, especially over bumps
- ⚠Jerky or snatchy power delivery
- ⚠Uneven wear or hooked sprocket teeth
