What is Wheelie Control?

Wheelie control (also called anti-lift) is a rider aid. It reduces engine output when the system detects front-wheel lift beyond a manufacturer-calibrated or rider-selected intervention level. It works within physical and model-specific limits and does not guarantee the front wheel will stay down.
How it works
The system uses inputs such as wheel-speed sensors and, on most modern motorcycles, an IMU measuring pitch and pitch rate. When the system detects front-wheel lift beyond the current intervention level, it reduces engine output — typically by trimming ignition timing, throttle opening or fuel delivery — until conditions return within that level. The intervention level may be fixed by the manufacturer, or selectable by the rider through ride modes or dedicated settings. Some performance settings intentionally allow a controlled amount of front-wheel lift.
Signs of trouble

What it helps with

- •It cannot overcome unsuitable gear, load or geometry choices.
- •Its behaviour depends entirely on ride mode and model, and some settings intentionally allow lift.
What normal intervention may feel like
- •A brief reduction in engine response when the front wheel begins to lift.
- •A short flash of the rider-aid indicator on the dash.
- •In more permissive settings, a controlled lift rather than a hard cut.
What the rider should do
- •Select a mode that matches the road, conditions and rider experience.
- •Apply the throttle smoothly, especially in higher-intervention modes.
- •Never deliberately provoke a wheelie to 'test' the system.
- •Have persistent warning lights or fault messages investigated by a qualified motorcycle technician.
How wheelie control varies between motorcycles
- •Wheel-speed-only systems vs. IMU-based pitch-aware systems.
- •Fixed intervention vs. multiple rider-selectable levels or ride modes.
- •Some performance settings intentionally allow a controlled amount of lift.
- •Some motorcycles disable wheelie control entirely in certain modes.
