Forward Collision Warning Explained

Alerts you if you're closing in on the vehicle ahead faster than is safe.

In plain English

Using the same forward radar as adaptive cruise control, this feature watches your closing speed on the vehicle ahead and issues a warning, visual, audible or both, if a collision risk is developing.

How it works

Radar calculates the rate at which the gap to the vehicle ahead is closing. If that rate suggests you won't stop in time at current braking, the system triggers a warning early enough for you to react.

What it feels like to use

In everyday riding you'll rarely notice it, since it only intervenes when a genuine gap has closed faster than normal. It's a background safety net rather than something you interact with directly.

Worth knowing: Availability and exact behaviour vary a lot between manufacturers — always check your specific model's handbook.
