Engine Management Light
The ECU has logged a fault somewhere in the engine or emissions system — get it plugged in for diagnosis soon.
What it means
This light means the ECU has detected a reading outside expected parameters somewhere in the engine, fuelling or emissions system and stored a fault code. It doesn't tell you what's wrong on its own — that needs a diagnostic scan.
What to do
It's usually safe to ride cautiously to a garage or dealer for a diagnostic scan, but avoid hard acceleration and keep an eye on how the bike's running. If it's flashing rather than steady, or accompanied by a loss of power, stop and get it checked immediately.
Likely causes
- •A failing sensor, such as an O2 or throttle position sensor
- •Loose or corroded electrical connector
- •A genuine mechanical fault developing
- •Sometimes triggered by a loose fuel cap or minor fault
