Engine-management or FI warning
A steady light may permit cautious travel if the handbook allows it; a flashing light, severe power loss, smoke or rough running needs a safe stop.

Normal behaviour
The malfunction or FI light commonly illuminates during the ignition self-test and then goes out after the engine starts. The exact sequence varies.
Possible fault
If it stays on or appears while riding, the ECU has detected a fault involving the engine, fuel-injection, ignition, emissions or another monitored system. The symbol alone does not identify the failed part.
What to do
Check the handbook. If the light is steady, the motorcycle runs normally and the handbook permits continued use, ride gently and arrange diagnosis soon. If the light flashes, power falls sharply, the engine runs roughly, smoke appears, fuel is leaking or another red warning accompanies it, stop safely and use recovery or professional advice.
Possible causes
- •Sensor, actuator, wiring or connector fault
- •Fuel-injection or ignition problem
- •Low system voltage
- •Emissions-control fault
- •A mechanical problem detected indirectly by the ECU
When not to ride
Do not ride when the handbook requires shutdown, the engine is misfiring badly, fuel is leaking, smoke is present, the warning flashes with an urgent meaning or the bike has entered severely reduced-power mode.
