Oil Pressure Warning

Stop as soon as it's safe — low oil pressure can destroy an engine in minutes.

What it means

This is one of the most serious warnings a motorcycle can show. It means oil pressure has dropped below the safe minimum needed to protect the engine's internal moving parts from friction and heat.

What to do

Stop the engine immediately and safely. Check the oil level once it's safe to do so. If it's low, topping up may solve it — if the light stays on with a correct oil level, do not restart the engine; arrange recovery instead.

Likely causes

  • Low oil level
  • A failed oil pump
  • A blocked oil pickup or filter
  • Worn engine bearings
Heads up: Exact symbols and behaviour vary by make and model — always check your owner's handbook, and speak to a qualified mechanic if you're unsure.
