Side Stand Indicator
The side stand is still down, or its switch has failed — many bikes will cut the engine or block gear engagement.
What it means
This tells you the side stand switch believes the stand is extended. Most bikes use this to prevent riding away with the stand down, either cutting the engine when a gear is selected or simply warning you.
What to do
Check the stand is fully retracted first. If the light stays on with the stand up, the switch likely needs attention — get it looked at, since some bikes will unexpectedly cut out if the switch is faulty.
Likely causes
- •The stand genuinely still down
- •A faulty or sticking stand switch
- •A corroded switch connector
- •A switch misaligned after stand or linkage wear
Heads up: Exact symbols and behaviour vary by make and model — always check your owner's handbook, and speak to a qualified mechanic if you're unsure.
