What is a Regulator / Rectifier?

This small but hardworking unit takes the alternating current from the stator, converts it to direct current, and regulates the voltage so the battery and electrics get a steady, safe supply rather than a surge.

How it works
Diodes inside the unit rectify (convert) AC to DC, while the regulator side sheds excess voltage as heat once the battery is fully charged. It's one of the most failure-prone electrical parts on a bike, often because it's mounted somewhere hot with little airflow.
Signs of trouble
- ⚠Battery boiling dry or smelling of rotten eggs
- ⚠Bulbs blowing more often than they should
- ⚠Overcharging shown on a multimeter, above roughly 14.8V
- ⚠Unit noticeably hot to the touch after riding
