What is a Shaft Final Drive?

Instead of a chain or belt, some bikes route power through a drive shaft running inside the swingarm to a bevel gear at the rear wheel — near-zero maintenance, at the cost of some extra weight and complexity.

How it works
The gearbox output spins a shaft enclosed within the swingarm, which turns a set of bevel gears at the rear axle to redirect that drive 90 degrees into the rear wheel. It's sealed and oil-lubricated, so it needs virtually no day-to-day attention beyond periodic oil changes.
